.NET News

Since our last newsletter, we have had discussions with a number of users to sound out and get feedback regarding the shift from Visual Basic 6 to Visual Basic .NET. As readers may remember, the main reason for this proposed shift were the problems with the Access Database on low spec PC machines (under 1.6Mhz and less than 256Mb RAM) running very slowly and using large amounts of processor power especially when closing down.

Indications from all users consulted indicated that rather than change immediately to VB.Net with Access was it be possible to bring in a SQL2000 version so that multiple file access and sharing across a network could be catered for (Access is not able to support these options) which would also eliminate the problems of machine specification. The answer is yes and we have started work on this aspect with an expected release date at the end of the year. Watch this space for further news!
